Adult Family Home: A Step-by-Step Beginner’s Guide

Starting an Adult Family Home can be very daunting to say the least. This article aims to lessen that difficulty by providing step-by-step instructions for people that are interested in opening an Adult Family Home.

Step 1: The first step to take when starting an Adult Family Home is to register your business with the IRS, WA Secretary of State, and WA department of revenue.

Step 2: Once you’ve been successful in registering your business, you’ll then proceed to the next step which is to gather all the supporting documents. For your specific application type. These documents can be found in this link: FINAL

Step 3: After step two, you’ll make sure that you complete the building inspection checklist and receive and receive a ‘passed’ inspection check from the building department for the jurisdiction the home is located in.

Step 4: Once you’ve completed step three, youll then proceed the process by completing the Adult Family Home administrator training. This training is required for all Adult Family Homes.

Step 5: Fill out the Adult Family Home Caregiving Experience Attestation (CEA).

Step 6: You’ll then need to fill out the DSHS forms which include:

Consent to Release and/or Use Confidential Information for Completing an Adult Home License Application
